Don’t Call it an Opinion

I keep hearing from the right about how they are being persecuted for just expressing their opinions on how a marriage should be defined. There just expressing their freedom of speech and it is a shame how they are being attacked for this.

First off I have a problem with the claim that it is just your opinion. I’m sorry but when your opinion is that another group of people shouldn’t have the same rights as everyone else it is no longer an opinion, it’s an oppression. It was once many people’s opinions that blacks and whites shouldn’t be married and that it was against God to do so. Would anybody try and argue today that those opinions were based on anything other than pure hate and bigotry? I’m sure it’s these same people and now their children that are now arguing against the rights of gay and lesbians.

Second there is the argument that you just believe in how God defines marriage. Well God also said other things about marriage. “If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl’s father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives” (Deuteronomy 22:28–29) I’m sure there aren’t too many Christians that still follow this little tidbit of advice from our Lord and Savior. I’m sure most Christians would argue that this was set up to protect the victim that at the time would have been ostracized from their community for being perceived as impure and that it doesn’t really apply to today. And my answer to them is, your right thanks for proving my point most of what is said in the Bible is not longer valid to the times that we live in or is acceptable by any reasonable or just person.
